Nakheel awards $11.9 million contract to build new retail space Al Furjan community

Nakheel a Dubai-based developer announced that it has awarded a contract award worth $11.9 million (Dhs44 million) for the construction of a new community centre in its Al Furjan development in the emirate.

The developer has selected Metac General Contracting to construct the new 10,000 square metre and recreation centre, which will contain 24 shops, including a 3,000 sqm supermarket, 10 cafes and restaurants, a swimming pool, sports court, gym and parking for 360 cars. More than 70 per cent of the retail space has already been booked, according to Nakheel.

Keolis and Amey bags Docklands Light Railway franchise

TRANSPORT for London (TfL) has appointed Keolis Amey Docklands, a joint venture of Keolis (70%) and Amey (30%), to operate and maintain the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) automated metro network up till April 2021 with an provision for a two year extension.

According to TfL, The total value of the contract award will be above £700m over the duration of the franchise and extension period. Keolis Amey Docklands will take over operation of the network from Serco Docklands on December 7.

DEWA to build $20 million new substation in Jumeirah

The Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (DEWA) has contract awarded a contract to construct a new $20 million (Dhs76 million) substation in Jumeirah to satisfy the increasing demand for electricity in the region.

The new 132/11kV substation is one among the series of development projects held by DEWA to boost up the city’s power capacity.

No specific details were revealed about who the contract was awarded to and the project’s completion date.

The project will raise DEWA’s networks capacity to transfer electricity to Jumeirah and results in efficient and reliable networks throughout these demanding areas and assures continual and stable supply to all the consumers 24/7. NASA inks $2.8 billion deal for SLS rocket stage with Boeing

After the completion of Critical Design Review by NASA and Boeing followed the contract signing ceremony of the new $2.8 billion contract awward.

Boeing has earned a contract from NASA to assist in development of the Space Launch System (SLS), which is an unconventional, heavy-lift launch vehicle being developed to raise the bars of science and human exploration in outer space.

Earlier, for national security related space launches NASA contracted Boeing. The supplies of rocket engines to NASA after importing them from Russia is handled by the United Launch Alliance (ULA), a joint venture of Lockheed Martin and Boeing.tender A big controversy recently took place after the US imposed sanctions on Russia for being engaged in annexation of Crimea. Alpen Capital report: GCC aims to spend $150 billion on education

A new study shows, annual 3% growth rate in the number of students in the GCC region is expected between 2013 and 2020 to reach 13.7 million.

The GCC is poised to experience a recurring spend of $150 billion in its education sector over the next few years, according to the Alpen Capital report.

Due to the increasing demand of both locals and foreigners, the total number of schools in the region is likely to emerge at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.4 per cent from 2013 to 2020.contrct award

The M&A activity has picked up in the sector in recent times. Punj Lloyd gets LoA for $236 million KNPC projectPunj Lloyd an EPC conglomerate has received a Letter of Award for a $236.09 million project from Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) to extend and remodel Ahmadi Depot in Kuwait.

The scope of work involves the design, procurement, detailed engineering, construction and commissioning of 11 new floating roof product tanks with an estimated capacity of 228,000m3. The project is expected to be finished over 35 months. This project is the first ever contract by Punj Lloyd in Kuwait.
It also involves associated civil work, interconnecting piping, construction of multi-product loading points, sub-substation with all electrical systems consisting emergency power supply.

India: Drake & Scull secures $82.7 million power project
The Uttarakhand Power Sector Investment Program-Project in Uttarakhand, India, awarded the $82.7 million deal for the electrical transmission line to Drake & Scull International (DSI), a regional firm expertise in integrated design, engineering and construction disciplines of General Contracting, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP), Water and Power, Rail and Oil and Gas.

The contract award includes construction of a new 400 kV Double Circuit (DC) transmission line.

The Uttarakhand Power Sector Investment-Project is a hydropower project, which will function from Srinagar to Kashipur in Kumaon to improve the hydropower development in Uttarakhand. The working activity for DSI contains the construction of 152 kilometers transmission line on quadruple bundled Bersimis conductor.
