Boeing gets $250 million to Upgrade NATO AWACS Fleet

Boeing has been awarded a contract awarded worth $250 million by NATO to set up digital flight decks and avionics on 13 of the alliance’s Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft, which are based on the Boeing 707 commercial airplane.

Egypt plans to dig $4 billion new Suez Canal

Egypt plans to build a new Suez Canal next to the existing one which is 145-year old waterway in a multi-billion dollar project to boost trade activities.

The 72Km passage will extend the fastest shipping route between Europe and Asia and facilitate ships to pass each other as well as cut down on waiting times for vessels from around 11 hours to three.

Babcock initiates work under small boat service contract

Babcock has started repair and maintenance work on the small boat fleet support contract, awarded by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) in June. The contract came into effect in July, which covers small boats used by the Royal Marines, Royal Navy, British Army and MoD Police.

U.S Navy awards Manitex International $30 - 45 million contract for specialized military equipment

Manitex Liftking, a subsidiary of Manitex International, Inc. (MNTX), a dominant worldwide provider of cranes and customized material and container handling equipment has been awarded its third military contract award for customized military specification equipment from the US Navy for orders worth around $30 -$45 million over the next five years.

Identical to the earlier orders from the Navy, this lift-truck will need some engineering and custom specifications, and a comprehensive performance testing protocol, consisting EMI and Hi-Shock testing, and the timeline for first supplies is scheduled as either late 2015 or early 2016. NASA awards IAI $1.5 million NEXTGEN contract

ManTech bags $89 million Army contract for C3 support

The U.S. Army has awarded a contract potentially worth $89.4 million to ManTech for software engineering assistance for the service’s Software Engineering Center.

SRO awards $104.4 million freight line track-doubling contract

The Saudi Railways Organisation (SRO), president H E Mohamed Al-Suwaiket, has inked a $US 104.4 million (Riyals 391.5 million) contract award with a Saudi contractor for the first phase of track-doubling on the Riyadh - Harad - Dammam freight-only line.

The scope of work involves doubling a 214Km section of the line from Hofuf to Harad, and the project is likely to take two years to be done.

U.S Army awards small firms $7B renewable energy Multiple Award Task Order Contract

WestEd gets $3 million contract to study Khan Academy’s effect on community college

The exquisite credentials and stature of the Khan Academy, the radical non-profit online educational organization established in 2006 by educator Salman Khan, which by 2013 was utilized by around 10 million students per month, and its micro lectures viewed over 458 millions times and is now going to be analyzed by the U.S. Department of Education, to check how effective it actually is in assisting students in community colleges succeed in math courses.

The research agency WestEd’s STEM partner program for the study, has been contract awarded a $3 million grant by the U.S. Department of Education.

Lockheed Martin secures £90 million Met Police contract 

Lockheed Martin has been awarded by the Metropolitan Police other Service (MPS) a contract worth £90 million to reinstate its command and control system.

As per the contract award the company will execute the first ‘major refresh’ of the Met’s commmand and control system in three decades. Capita and KPMG will work in corporation with Lockheed Martin on the contract, which could run for up to 17 years.

The MPS' existing command and control system is presently facilitated by Unisys via a contract scheduled to expire in October 2015.

U.S. Navy awards $49.6 million contract for USS George Washington

The Newport News Shipbuilding division of Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has been awarded with a $49.6 million contract award to start planning for work on the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73). Work under the contract includes planning, engineering and shipboard inspections for work related with the defueling of the ship.

Transportation Commission awards $35.5 million for highway projects

The Wyoming Transportation Commission during its July teleconference meeting awarded seven highway projects around the state totaling around $35.5 million.

McGarvin-Moberly Construction of Worland bags the biggest of the contracts with a low bid of $12.2 million for milling off deteriorating pavement and reinstating it with new pavement on 12 miles of the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 just east of Wamsutter.

A $7.3 million contract award has been awarded to McGarvin-Moberly to remove deteriorating pavement construct new pavement on around 7 miles of Interstate 25 at Chugwater. Siemens likely to receive €31million contract for Avenio LRVs

STADTWERKE Ulm (SWU) has chosen Siemens as preferred bidders for a €31m contract award to supply 12 low-floor LRVs for the expansion of the metre-gauge tram network in the German city.

Ulm requires further vehicles for its second tram line, which will run for 11km from the Science Park in the northwest of the city to the main station and Kuhberg in the southwest. Saipem lands on $850 million worth of contracts in Asia, Africa and Latin America

A number of new drilling contracts worth around $850 million has been secured by Saipem in Indonesia, Nigeria, the Arabian Gulf and Latin America, out of which $540 million are associated to offshore activity and refer to four different units of Saipem’s fleet.

Saipem has inked with Eni Muara Bakau B.V. a contract award for the usage of the Scarabeo 7 which will be functioning offshore Indonesia drilling a minimum of 12 wells; the project is likely to be done in first quarter 2017. The vessel will stay under contract with Eni until February 2018. Jordan to invest $1.4 million on sewage project

Ministry of Water - Jordan announced that it will fund US$1.4 million to link residential houses to Madaba Governorate’s main sewage network by Q1 2015.

The project initiative will be financed by a GCC grant.

By connecting homes to the main sewage line, the government targets to deal with tender the problem of spreading cesspits, tanks or pits utilized for waste disposal.
