The Rural Electrification Agency, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, The Government of Uganda has called for Expressions of Interest from Consultancy Firms who wish to undertake the feasibility study for future rural electrification lines, Uganda Rural Electricity Project. The African Development Bank has allocated funds to the Government of Rwanda towards the Uganda Rural Electricity Access Project (UREAP). A portion of these funds is to be used to make payments under this contract to the consultancy firms to undertake the feasibility study for future rural electrification lines.
The core objective of this exercise is to conduct techno commercial studies and engineering designs for rural electrification through grid extensions and thereby prepare bankable reports. The scope of work under this project also includes the routes survey of the distribution lines, assessment of the social and environmental impact of grid electrification projects which are proposed to be undertaken in North West, Eastern, Mid-Western, South Western, Central North, North Eastern, West Nile, Northern, North Western, Rwenzori, Western, South and Central Electricity Distribution Service in territories covering a total of 2.500 km Medium Voltage (33 kV and n 11kV) Iines. The scope would also include Low Voltage reticulations and last mile connections to cater to Health Centres, Schools, SMEs and also the households in the rural areas. The project is estimated to be completed I n eight months.
Consultants who are interested in this assignment must submit details establishing that they are qualified to perform this feasibility study and will have to furnish the following documents:
- Certificate of Registration/ Incorporation. Memorandum & Articles of Association and Powers of Attorney indicating the legal status of the company
- Prior experience in sub-Saharan African conditions
- Having the required staff with appropriate skills in managing such projects, design engineers, planning the distribution, surveyors, environmentalists and sociologists.
The African Development Bank's "Rules and Procedures for the use of Consultants' May 2008 Edition. Revised July 2012 will define the rules and procedures of the selection process.
