The
Ministry of Works, Bahrain is likely to float a tender to construct a
$461.6mn (BHD 175mn) wastewater treatment plant in recent days, says,
Works Minister, Essam Khalaf.
The country’s Northern Town development
includes the 40mn litres per day project, which is at present under
construction, and will be constructed on reclaimed land off the coast of
Budaiya.
Presently, Bahrain is stretching its
wastewater treatment capacity, with a 100mn litre per day facility
unveiled on 25 June and a doubling of the Tubli Sewage Treatment Plant’s
(STP) capacity also announced recently.
According to Essam Khalaf - The Northern
Town project is in the design phase and we will be calling for the tenders in the coming weeks. It will be part of the Northern Town
housing scheme’s main infrastructure and will handle sewage requirements
of the areas. The Northern Town STP could ultimately have its capacity
expanded to match up with 60mn litres of waste, in near future.
