Abu
Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) has contract awarded GDF SUEZ a
25-year Power and Water Purchase Agreement (PWPA) to manage the Mirfa
Independent Water and Power (IWPP) project in Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity
Authority (ADWEA) will hold 80 per cent equity stake in the project and
the rest will be held by GDF SUEZ.
The Mirfa project, situated 120
kilometers from Abu Dhabi, is the Emirate’s tenth facility to be
constructed under the Public-Private Partnership model. The capital cost
of $1.5 billion is estimated for the project built and will cover the
attainment of some of the existing water and power facilities, the
design, engineering and construction of new power and water facilities,
as well as the processing of the plant. When completed, the fully
integrated functioning with the existing and new facilities, Mirfa IWPP
will have an overall power capacity of 1,600MW and a seawater
