The
U.S. Navy has awarded Northrop Grumman a $3.64 billion contract award to
build 25 E-2D Advanced Hawkeye airborne early warning and control
(AEW&C) system aircraft.
Announced on Monday, the five-year
contract will save the U.S. Government about $369 million, the
acquisition will bring the total number of USN E-2Ds on order to 50, out
of a total requirement for 75 aircraft, according to the Navy.
Thirteen production aircraft have been delivered to date, and initial operating capability is expected this October.
